Goals galore sees Killavullen get victory over Milford

June 03, 2026

Killavullen and Milford produced an exciting high scoring game in Killavullen on Tuesday night.

Colm Hannon opened the scoring for Killavullen from play but not long before number 12 for Milford equalised the scores. Colm Looney who later on, will become the hero tapped over a free from 21 metres out to give Killavullen a 1 point lead.  Colm Hannon found himself stuck in the corner of the pitch near the sideline with the ball but in fine fashion, he threw the sliotar over the shoulder and swung the ball over the bar . A long-range score from Milford's number 4 and free from Colm Looney gave Killavullen a 3-point lead. Three scores in a row from Milford made the game all square for a second time. In that period of time, Darragh O Connor gave us a Nickie Quaid type save to keep Milford in touching distance, Colm Looney caught a great ball and fired it into the back of the net to restore Killavullen’s lead. Number 10 for Milford showed great resilience and got a bullet of a goal to make the game all square again. Scores from Colm Looney, Conor Griffin and Sean Palmer gave Killavullen the lead again. Three Points from Milford wasn't enough to finish out the half close t Killavullen as Colm Hannon hit a flourish of 1-2 including a goal by striking the sliotar on the ground.  Shortly afterwards, Colm Looney ran in on goal and bounced the ball into the back of the net to give Killavullen a 9-point lead going into half time . A scuffle just after the half time whistle got a little loose but referee Wayne King restored order by showing a yellow card to both sides.

Milford got the opening score of the second half from a placed ball, Mike Walsh then got a good score but that wasn't enough for him, so on the next play he made a superb run and fired the ball top corner into the back of the net. This gave Killavullen a 12-point lead, Number 10 for Milford popped over 3 frees in a row to try to start a fight back. Colm Looney tried to retain momentum as he popped over a free but Milford were getting red hot. Milford’s centre forward pumped in a long ball at pace, and it ended up into the back of the net. Milford came again and number 10 shot the ball into the bottom corner of the net to only put Killavullen's lead to 4. Manager John Brennan introduced Barry Murphy, Cian Murphy and Kian Lane in a short period of time to try to change the flow of the game to Killavullen's side. Milford could not be stopped at this moment of time, and they scored 3 points in a row including an incredible long-range point from Number 4. With Killavullen on edge only leading by 1, Number 12 for Milford hit a rocket of a shot heading for the top corner, but Darragh O Connor produced heroics stopping the shot in a mid-air dive but unfortunately the ball still ended up going over the bar from the save to make the game all square again. Killavullen were awarded a free in the middle of the pitch but due to the new dissent rules, the free was brought up and Colm Looney quickly hammered the ball into the top corner. This gave us a bit of breathing space and even more so when Milford were reduced to 14. Colm Looney then popped over 2 frees to give us a 5-point lead, for the second time in this game number 10 for Milford showed great spirit as he gave Milford their fourth goal of the game. With the lead only at 2, Milford got another point with 2 minutes left to give us a nail biting finish. The game looked like it might swing in Milford’s way but then the man of the moment, Colm Looney stepped up and got his fourth goal of the game to give Killavullen victory at last
