Killavullen go through the entire league program undefeated

June 29, 2025

Yesterday, in Killavullen, in front of a decent crowd, Killavullen wrapped up their final league game of the ten teams Red FM County Division 7 Hurling League against Passage West, and maintained their form, right to the end, to run out decisive winners, on a final score of 0-24 to 0-12.

Showing several changes from earlier rounds, due to injuries and other commitments, Killavullen opened the scoring with a point from Seamus O Mahony who worked very hard throughout the game. Passage West replied with a point before Jamie scored a point from a free, only for passage to equalise again. Jamie edged us ahead again, but Passage showed commitment to the game, even though their own league status was safe, and drew level in the 7th minute. Darragh O Grady scored a glorious point, then Jamie scored a point from a free, and then from open play to push us three points ahead. Mickey O Connor drew an excellent save from the Passage West custodian when his strong shot, that was driven into the hard ground was pushed aside for a 65 Metre shot, that Jamie converted.

Passage West fired a repost though, and came more into the game, and scored two points in quick succession to leave the score 0-07 to 0-05 by the 15th minute.  Jamie scored another free, and was on the mark from open play, before our full forward line combined to set up Colm Hannon to take a neat point. Jamie again converted a free to push our lead out further.  Our sea-side opponents replied with two more point, before Padraig Looney scored a great point from out of the wing, and good initial play from Sean Palmer isolated him, in space. Just before the break, Sean Woulfe in our goals, got his hurley to an excellent shot and Kevin Fox completed the clearance by dispersing the rebound away from danger. The score at the interval was 0-12 to 0-07.

Darragh O Grady scored our opening point of the second period, before his brother, Patrick showed good speed and a cool finish to added to our tally. Mickey O Connor then pushed our score out to 8 points, with a point from distance, that Liam Cronin was influential in manufacturing. Passage West scored with a close in free, and Kian Lane was introduced for Colm Hannon. Our opponents then scored another free before Kian signalled his introduction in style with a lovely point on the run, from the 40 metre mark. Passage West got another point from a free, before Colm O Mahony , now operating on the 40 metre mark, scored three identi-kit points in quick succession, out in front of his man, and fired the ball over his shoulder, something that Seamus Flanagan did very well for years, for Limerick. Passage has bought their tally to 0-11 after the brace from Colm, but before the 3rd point.  Jamie brought our tally to 0-10 with a point from open play, and Killavullen made a number of introductions, so that  the entire squad can get game time, ahead of finals for both this team, and the Division 4 Avondhu Team.

Darragh O Grady scored another fine point for us, and then Mikey O Connor. Passage West replied with a point, before Colm O Mahony scored from a free, and Charlie Lillis scored a monster point, from out of the wing, far side of the field, in front of the Killavullen dug out, to earn the praise of the nearby management team.
