Last night in Killavullen GAA Club, Killavullen received promotion after a huge win over a strong Killeagh side, in the Red FM County Division 7 County League, a win that will see Killavullen play in Division 6 next year.
Killavullen put the first score on the board by a free from Jamie Magner, who has been very reliable all year. Killeagh responded straight away with a free from Dan Walsh, one of the very talented Walsh brothers. Killeagh pointed again from nippy number 13. Jamie pointed again from a placed ball, Killeagh straight away went down and scored. The Killeagh forwards were giving Killavullen backs lots to do inside the first 8 minutes. Darragh O Grady responded with a beautiful point from the corner. Number 13 for Killeagh, in an audacious score, flicked the ball over Killavullen’s wing back's head and split the posts with a glorious score to give Killeagh the lead. Jamie yet again put the game all square from a free, Killeagh pointed again to take the lead for the 4th time.
Owen Magner got a nice score after Mikey worked like a horse to get the ball to him. Patrick O Grady gave Killavullen the lead, for the first time since the 2nd minute, 2 minutes later Patrick made a run like Usain Bolt and took a shot which was flicked on by Colm Looney for the first goal of the game. A minute later, Looney nearly had a second, but the shot was well saved by the Killeagh keeper and was put out for a 65. Jamie, of course, pointed to give Killavullen a two-goal lead. Killeagh got a point before half-time, and Killavullen had a 5-point lead at the break. The score at the interval was 1-09 to 0-07 in favour of Killavullen, and they were after playing against, what breeze was blowing into the Killavullen village.
Killeagh withdrew Dan Walsh at the interval for Number 18 after being well marked by Charlie Lilis, but also dangerous. Killeagh came out like prime Cork, for the second half, and within 3 minutes, they already had a goal and a point. And a minute and a half later, Killeagh had it all square, with a point from play. Jamie scored a free, but seconds later, Killeagh responded with a similar score. Eoghan Buckley had to come off due to a hamstring injury, and he was replaced by Kevin Fox. Eddie Cotter got a well-deserved score to give Killavullen the lead again. Killeagh received a penalty, which was buried by number 18, leaving our stand in keeper Paudie Looney no chance. Jamie got another free, leaving the gap to one, and then Colm O'Mahony tapped over a close-range free. Killeagh got the 4th goal of the game, and the 3rd for the east Cork side, to give them a 3-point lead. Three points in a row for Killavullen meant it was all square again, and then keeper Paudie, more used to playing out the field, made a great run and gave Lovely a pass to Eddie Cotter, who gave a ball to Mikey, who pointed to give Killavullen the lead and get definitely our best score of the day, a score that had the very sizeable attendance in raptors. Jamie put the lead to 2, but then Killeagh tapped over a free to put the lead back to 1, as the clock went into the red. Jamie, with his magic hurley, put the lead to 2 again to give Killavullen the win and promotion.
