Cold Night To Be Gripping A Hurley

April 02, 2019

4-13 to 0-09 2nd April 2019 Vs. Clyda Rovers

On a bitterly cold Tuesday evening (April 2nd), Killavullen minors travelled to our near neighbours Clyda Rovers in round 1 of the Division 2 hurling league. The fair play rule was adopted with both teams lining out 14 a side due to Clyda down numbers for various different reasons.

Killavullen won the toss a elected to play against a strong breeze. Fionn got us up and running with a fine point from distance. That was quickly followed by a goal from Mark to put us in a comfortable position inside the first couple of minutes, 1-1 to no score. More points followed from Darragh, Mark, Mikey O C and Colm, while Clydas scores came from three David Walsh frees. Two quick fire goals from Cian and Liam put real day light between the teams by the 25th minute. Both sides traded points before the half time break with Killavullen leading 3-8 to Clydas 0-5

The game lost much of its shape and flow after the interval. Clyda stepped up there work rate and sniffed out numerous dangerous balls that went into the Killavullen forwards. Some poor shot selection ment Killavullens wide count for the game went into double figures. Darragh raised another green flag mid way through the second half with a tidy finish. Killavullen out scored Clyda 1-5 to 0-4 in a second half that wont live long in the memory. Overall, Killavullens excellent first half display effectively meant the game as a contest was over at half time.
