Even the mighty Bart could not save us

Last night in Ballyhooley, the extreme foolishness of Killavullen entering into the Junior B championship in its current guise, that cost the club €1,000 in fees, came home to roost when we came up against a desperately strong Glanworth team, that legitimately, and to their credit had 7 intermediate grade players in their starting 15, and had no less than 13 substitutes.
The present structure of this competition needs to be radically and surgically over hauled.
But back to the night, the team that took to the field representing Killavullen was not a bad team; it is just that the competition was so much stronger. We were behind at the break on a score of 2-09 to 0-01, with our solitary score coming from the boot of Mikey O Connor. But for the very committed and honest endeavours of John O Regan, Fionn Magner, Noah Butler and Mikey O Connor, the situation would have been much worst. Barthly blocked everything that came his way in goals as well, but we were overrun in large areas on the field.
In the second half, we came more into the game, especially in the last quarter. We had a fine point from Eamonn Horgan, and the same player was unlucky to see another shot of his crash off the underside of the bar, but fail to cross the line. Sean Woulfe scored two points, with one being a converted free. We did register a major score when Michael O Rourke, who had a good second period, with Evan O Connor, scored a lovely goal to put a small bit of respectability on the score line. Barthly continued to perform heroics but it was not enough to prevent a comprehensive spanking, on a final score of 3-18 to 1-04
