Grange Are Fully Meritorious For Their League Win

May 21, 2019

1-08 to 2-13 21st May 2019 Vs. Grange

Last Tuesday evening, in Grange, Killavullen played Grange in the latest installment of the Avondhu Division 1 Football league game,

Killavullen opened the scoring and were on top for the initial 10 to 15 minutes, and scored 3 points in that period, from Eoin Buckley, Dave Brosnan and Gary Lane, but Grange are nothing but a wily foe, and they gradually worked themselves back into the game, with 3 converted frees. Liam Cronin put us ahead again, after a nice point, with a neat interchange with Evan O Connor but Grange equalised again, before Dave Brosnan got his second point on the night. Grange equalised before half time from another converted free. The score at the interval was 0-05 apiece.

We started the second period brightly enough but had a proliferation of wides before Dave got his 3rd point. 12 wides, in total before the game concluded pointed to the nucleus of the Killavullen problems on the night, after the lay off for 4 weeks for the hurling. Grange, now played with the considerable aid of the hill, towards the road, equalised, only for Dave to score our 7th point from a free. Grange surged ahead impressively from here out to the end of the game, with strong over-lapping when in possession of the ball, and good defensive structures without the ball. Killavullen struggled to break down the amassed defence, and got sucker punched several times with counter attacks, to allow Grange race into 0-10 to 0-07 lead. Grange scored a very good goal in one such counter attack, but we hit back quickly with a converted penalty, scored by Dave Brosnan again.

Grange were awarded a penalty of their own shortly to open up a commanding lead, and despite Eoin getting another score, before the long whistle, Grange were good value for their winning margin of 2-13 to 1-08.
