Tough Conditions, But Hard Working Killavullen Forge A Good Win.

February 17, 2019

3-09 to 2-05 17th February 2019 Vs. Mitchelstown

The pitch in Killavullen on Sunday afternoon last was very heavy, it having to endure its second game of the day, and a desperately heavy shower before this Minor Division 1 football game against Mitchelstown.

We opened the scoring from a Darragh O Grady free but Mitchelstown equalised, and they were playing with the aid of a considerable wide at their backs. Brian Cotter belied the tough conditions though, and took off with a strong run that yielded a great goal and then kicked another point from distance against the breeze. These were very important scores and vital ones to boot. Mark Nagle kicked a lovely point from his cultured left foot before Mitchelstown got a point back from a free. Brian got the final point of the half, again from play before the interval to leave us in the ascendancy, 1-04 to 0-02

After the short whistle Marked Nagle scored another point and then tellingly got a peach of a goal. Mitchelstown rallied with a point and then two goals in quick succession to only leave two points between the teams. But good play from Fionn Magner and Ronan Barry at the back, stymied the momentum from our opponents and we put further daylight between us and them, when Conor Griffin scored a lovely point. Colm Looney then sealed the win with a brilliant goal that flew into the top corner. Mikey O Connor capped an impressive display with a long range point before Mitchelstown got a point back. We got our final two scores of an impressive display from the hard working Darragh O Grady and our opponents got one back to bring the final score to 3-09 to 2-05.
