Hard Working Team Victory Secures The Spoils

In glorious sunshine last Saturday in Killavullen, Killavullen and Kilara Óg played out an entertaining but robust game in the latest instalment of the U16 Hurling league. Killavullen just about eked out the win on a final score of 2-15 to 1-12 but the score line is all the more commendable as Killavullen played 40 minutes of this game with 14 players, after having a player shown a straight red card, early in the game.
The first half was very even, with Jamie Magner influential for Killavullen and possessing a real scoring threat while the centre forward for Kilara was also very important for them. We had points from Sean Palmer, Shane Walsh, Kian Lane, Seamus O Mahony and some frees from Jamie and from play but the decisive score in this half was a well worked team goal, finished to the net by Michael Walsh.
The score at the interval was 1-07 to 0-08 in our favour.
After the changeover we had a brace of points from Kian Lane, and a brace from Jamie to bring our tally to1-11 but Kilara with their numerical advantage were coming by their scores easier and drew parity by the 15th minute. They forged ahead shortly after the referee sensibly had stopped the play for a water break but Sean Palmer gained possession and turned sharply to draw up level with a fine point. We spurned a glorious goal chance but we created another over lap and this time, Oisin Larkin finished to the net after being set up by Shane Walsh. Riled up by that contribution, Shane fired over another point and suddenly we had some daylight. The game finished out with a brace of point from frees, that were hard earned by Seamus O Mahony and converted by him. Kilara were reduced to 14 players fort the final 5 minutes of the game, after one of their individuals garnished two yellow cards.
